Church of the Holy Virgin & St. Nicholas
Bessastadir Iceland
Evangelical Lutheran
There has been a church on this site since AD 1000. The present church took 20 years to build and was consecrated in 1796, though the steeple wasn’t completed until 1823. It is one of the oldest stone and concrete buildings in Iceland. One of the stained glass windows portrays St. Nicholas. Located next to Iceland’s presidential residence, the church was fully renovated in 1998.
