Shrine of St. Therese The Shrine of St. Therese is well known to local residents as a place of outstanding beauty. Looking over Lynn Canal, with the Chilkat Mountains in the background,it is a place to take friends, relatives and acquaintences when they visit Juneau. The Shrine Chapel, built out of local stone and the heart of the Shrine, is located on an island which is connected by a safe causeway. Besides being a place where one may come to naturally connect with their Creator in a special way, the Shrine area draws those hoping to catch the kings and silver salmon off the rocks of Shrine Island, divers wanting to find crabs and mingle with the sea lions, or picnickers in search of sunshine. There are inviting hard surfaced trails (wheelchair friendly) that lead one along the water to the beautiful garden areas and the panaramic ocean views. Places of meditation abound on these grounds, and the Good Shepherd Trail, Stations of the Cross, Shrine Columbarium, and Merciful Love Labyrinth are especially well known for helping one find growth, healing, and inner peace. There are six different facilities found at the Shrine that can be reserved to provide day meeting and/or overnight accomodations for individuals, couples, families and church, business, government or non-profit small or large groups. The cabins and lodge meet the needs of all; the rustic cabin allows one to find the simplicity in the midst of nature, while the other cabins and Lodge provides one with more comforts and conveniences, modern kitchens, and relaxing rooms. All the facilities are able to be reserved by anyone who desires to spend time in a place of peace and beauty, where nature's creatures are frequently found displaying their playful presence a short distance away. Groups can use the facility kitchens to prepare their own meals or request such to be catered from the Shrine Staff.
